Travelling around

Getting about

Public transport is the best way to navigate city and a great way to explore the capital.  And, with so many modes of transport available, getting around couldn’t be easier.

An Oyster card is a cost effective smartcard which can be used on Underground and Overground trains, buses, the Docklands Light Railway (DLR), trams, and some National Rail services in London.  These can be purchased at all Underground and Overground stations, on-line at www.tfl.gov.uk and some newsagents.

London also boasts a frequent riverboat service; a speedy way to make your way across town and take in many of our landmarks.

Transport runs throughout the day and details of routes, maps and up to date travel information can be found at the Transport for London website or telephone the Travel Information Centre on 020 7222 1234 (24 hours) for help planning your journey

Taxis

London’s licenced taxi drivers (‘cabbies’) are considered the most knowledgeable in the world, as well they should be - they’re required know the whereabouts of over 25,000 streets and roads in the capital before they’re fully qualified!  Licenced London taxis are the most reliable and are also known as ‘black cabs’.
